What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Today we were learning about how important it is to be connected... have a network of people that you can bounce ideas off or ask for help.

When we connect we all have a Shared Language

The children can write on each others posts.  We will have a chance to do this once our blogs are up and running. 

This has been added to the Technology Curriculum

Connected goes hand in hand with Sharing.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  

Today we had a chance to code @ code.org

It was a great skill to learn...Giving clear and concise instructions.

We also looked at Scratch and Microbit.

I created a Scratch animation using code but I didn't create an account so I couldn't upload it to my blog...

Today we have been learning about the fact that Manaiakalani want everything in the classroom to be visible.

I learnt today that Hapara has a parent portal. 

To watch Manaiakalani's learn, create and share in action you can visit some classes on the Google Class on Air. Everything is live.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Today I learnt how to create a Google Site. This will help with the visibility of the work I plan for my students. We learnt how important it was to make the site visually appealing for the kids so it lures them in and keeps them on task.
If you click on the link in my box - "Nikki's Pollination Page" you will be able to see the Google Site I made about pollination.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  

I will definitely use the Google Site I made with my class later on in the term. It is still a work in progress at the moment.
I also learnt how to use Screencastify...I am hoping to use this as an assessment tool in the future instead of doing a 'Gloss' assessment on each and every child. I will show the children how to download Screencastify tomorrow and create a maths sheet tonight that they can record their workings on.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Today I learnt how to embed a youtube playlist... Here is one I have created.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  
I also learnt a few tricks on Google Drawings... It was good to learn if there are checkers in the background then it means it will publish

I learnt how to add the childrens animation to their blogs...

To publish the animation... click on File and press publish to the web. Press Embed and then copy URL into the HTML on your blog

At the end of the day I learnt how to create a pick a path story using Google Slides. I will give this a go with my class tomorrow.

• What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

We focused a lot on the CREATE part of Learn, Create, Share today.

• What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I am looking forward to using Google Sheets more often to analyse data.
Today I have learnt how to ...

• Change the cell so you can see all of the writing by pressing
• Separate first and last names...go to 'Data' in the menu bar...split cell to columns… then choose by space etc. 
• To make a list of numbers etc press the number then ‘alt’ to make the numbers go down the page

AND now you can use the explore tool in ‘Sheets’ now. You can ask questions of your data.

• What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Other people have used Read&Write as an editing tool, which is a great idea!!! The children listen to the story being read. Do they need to make any changes?

I can also see Google My Maps as a great tool in Maths. You can measure distance and area.
I have used Google Forms before but it is great to think about them as an assessment tool. I will definitely be using Google Forms as an assessment tool in Maths for Strand. It would be much easier to gather information.

• What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

I think I will use Google My Maps to plan a holiday to see my brother in Recco, Italy.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

We spent a lot of time learning about Google Hangouts today.
Dorothy spoke to us this morning from Auckland via Google Hangouts and then we had turns using it as a tool for meetings etc.
I learnt how to invite people to a Google Hangout meeting through my Google Calendar, and we recorded a discussion about blogs.


What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Professionally I think I could use Google Hangouts so the children can meet with Scientists or experts throughout New Zealand.
In my personal life I could use Google Hangouts to chat to my brother, sister-in-law and nephew in Italy.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I learnt a lot from todays session.

• Google Keep ( Which I will use a lot in both my personal and professional life.)

It will help me organise myself, make lists, record notes (voice to text), take photos of sheets and convert them to a google doc. WOW!!!!

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  

• The Scavenger Hunt was great and I plan to use it with my class. There are lots of things they need to learn and it will be good to know where the holes are, so I can teach them.
• I also think I'll give the group story a go. I am sure they will love it.
• I made a spelling poster for my class today too (which I have attached below)

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

• In my personal life I would like to use Google Keep for my to do lists and shopping lists. I like that I can do voice to text, on my phone, while I'm looking in the fridge and pantry.
